I can't remember the detail but ever since then I have used the Structure slider for enhancing small details and used the Sharpening Tool for enhancing the 'edges' of objects and those details. Some time (years) ago I read a Capture One "Professors' Blog" regarding the new, at that time, Clarity Tool. I and other forum members would then be able to make and post our own efforts and hopefully tell you what adjustments we applied to the image that you made available. Post the results of your efforts and tell us all what you find wrong with your efforts. It may help if you could make a RAW file available. Then invert that mask and you have a selected area where there is more detail than in the sky and use the sharpening and clarity settings to suit that area without applying those adjustments to the sky (and other 'flat' areas of your image. Then create another mask and copy the sky mask into it. For instance create a mask covering area(s) of sky and leave sharpening etc.

I see that you have the full Pro version of C1 so try using masks to sharpen/soften, apply Clarity/Structure etc. I usually output for use on a screen somewhere rather than for printing so I do not usually apply any output (export module) sharpening. I then play with C1s' settings until I get what I like then, set the 'Diffraction Correction' to ON and make sure that I don't have to back-off the sharpening amount slider. The 'Structure' slider under the Clarity tool set to 20. The 'Luminance' and 'Color' sliders under Noise Reduction set to default (50). The 'Details slider under the Noise Reduction tool set to 100 The 'Diffraction Compensation' turned off,

(Consider the 'Structure' slider as a way to sharpen (enhance) the 'not so fine' detail and the normal sharpening tool is a way of to sharpen the very fine/edge detail.)įor a low ISO image I would start with something like :. There is the 'Structure' slider under the 'Clarity' tool. There are the noise and detail sliders under "Noise Reduction" tool. There is the "Diffraction Correction" switch/button under the 'Lens' tab. There are the 'normal' sharpening sliders.

There are the sharpening facilities in the export module. The following is based on my post in a different thread. Finding the right settings (especially lower Threshold at low ISOs) provides a stark improvement. That will get every ounce of detail out of your image with little to no noise penalty.Ĭapture One gets better detail out of raw images at C1 settings compared to OOC JPEGs, but the difference isn't huge. The real eye-opener for me that made the Fitzgerald e-book purchase worth its weight in gold was the need to lower the default Threshold setting below "1" for low- to middle-ISO settings. In my experience, the ISO 800-1600 range is close, but higher ISOs are over-sharpened (to my taste), and base ISO (full exposure) certainly can withstand more sharpening, and less noise reduction.

You might want to purchase the inexpensive Thomas Fitzgerald e-book to get a better understanding of how to get the best out of Capture One 12. Can someone please give me some advice how to sharpen my images properly in C1? Increasing the Amount Slider increases sharpness a bit but also leads to artifacts becoming stronger, making the image look ugly.

With default sharpening settings I find my images too soft. I have some problems sharpening my X-T3 files in C1.
